With this update, I wanted to say, “THANK YOU!!”to all of you who have shown interest in my blog.
This blog has allowed me to express myself through writing the things that I think about. Through the telling of my stories, I hope you have been informed by my stories; that you have felt a range of emotions; that you have seen things, perhaps from a different perspective, but above all that you may have seen that the Lord has been kind to me by loving me and though imperfect, I love Him because He first loved me.
I’ve learned some of the blogging Continue reading
It was five years ago today, that Paula Baskin was taken to Mercy Hospital by ambulance.
Brenda Mayes sat with Paula most of the day, because Paula wasn’t feeling well. Brenda called Terrie when Paula wasn’t able to stand. Terrie arrived and together they decided to call 911.
In the emergency room, the doctor told me she was going through renal failure. They admitted her and that began a four-month time of caring for her. I’m thankful for those four months, because during those months, we learned to love one another on another level. Continue reading
I became a Christian in December of 1977. Around that time, my music changed to contemporary Christian music (CCM). There were a number of songs called “Word songs” that were influenced by scripture verses. The Maranatha Singers produced many of them and they were some of my favorite songs to listen too. In 1980, their album “In His Time Praise 4” contained the song “Micah 6:8” created from the verse Micah 6:8 which Continue reading
“ Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” James 4:10 ESV
Last night, I went to church despondent. Yesterday, I had a CT scan in the afternoon. It wasn’t the first time that I have gone through the machine, but this time was different. I was very nervous about how the result would turn out.
A CT scan is interesting in that, it can see inside of you and identify things that cannot be seen from outside. It is a shadow of what the Lord can see in us at all times. But a CT scan is limited to just organs and body parts. The Lord sees our bad attitudes and motives and our sin.
My pastor was preaching from Judges 8:22-35 about Gideon and his attitude. As part of his introduction, he spoke about Hebrews 12:1-2 regarding the sin which so easily besets us. The word “beset” is used in the KJV. In comparison, the ESV says, “clings so closely”.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV
I was mentally stopped for a few minutes thinking about the sin Continue reading
I read an article by Valerie Tarico called “Captive virgins, polygamy and sex slaves. What marriage would look like if we actually followed the Bible“. In her article, Ms. Tarico stated she used to be a Bible believer, but apparently is not one now. Most of her writings appear to be anti-Christian. In this article, she took an overview look of stories and events in the Bible, without applying what the Scripture says about Christian marriage.
If the reader is unfamiliar with me, I have been married for forty-one years. I have been a Christian for thirty-seven years. I have spent my life watching my parents struggle in their marriage, and have sought others who seemed to have a solid marriage. For over fifty years, I have watched my father’s brother and his wife, Uncle Loy and Aunt Lois, live a God-centered life and have a model marriage. They have been married for nearly 70 years. Their marriage is decisively different from Ms. Tarico’s observations. Continue reading
