How Can I Become A Christian?

Scriptures to guide you

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” Rms 10:17

Understand you are a sinner and have sinned against God.

“…There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God.  They have all turned aside, they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one.”  Romans 3:10-12

“ For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

Understand because you are a sinner, you deserve death.  But God’s gift is eternal life.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

Understand you need a Savior and God the Father provided His Only Begotten Son, Jesus

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8

Understand God’s plan is for you to confess and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord.

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Rms 10:9,10

Understand God keeps His promises

“”For whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Romans 10:13

If you want to become a Christian, God placed that desire in your heart.  Understanding what the Scripture says about who you are and what Jesus has done for you, will you pray and ask Him to save you?

    • Larry, thank you for your question. Before a person becomes a Christian, their spiritual state is that of being a sinner. After a person becomes a Christian, they are still a sinner, but their sins were cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ and the work that was accomplished on the cross, in order for them to live for Jesus. Until we die, we will always struggle with sin. The Holy Spirit lives within us and helps us overcome sin and a sinful lifestyle.

In Romans 7:15 and following, Paul wrote about doing the things he doesn’t want to do and not doing the things he should do. He described himself as the Chief Sinner.

Perhaps your question has more to do with submitting to the Lordship of Christ. In tonight’s message, my pastor brought a message entitled “The Will of God Made Clear”. Here are his points:
      I. Be Saved (John 1:13 and John 6:40)
      !!. Be Spirit-Filled (Eph. 5:17-18)
      !!!. Be Surrendered (John 21:22)
IV. Be Sanctified (1 Thess. 4:3-5)
      V. Be Thankful (1 Thess. 5:18)

As we attempt to live more for Christ and less to ourselves, it entails surrendering our desires to His desires. If you are a Christian, the Holy Spirit will let you know when you sin and the desire to do it less often. I would also have you look at Romans 13:14.

Finally, I would point you to 2 Cor. 10:5b, which speaks of taking every thought captive. Learn to control your thought process and don’t give way to unholy thoughts that lead to unholy actions.

I hope this has helped you.
